Email marketing can keep you in business. It can increase the trust factor from your subscribers and it can GROW your business, even during lean times.

✓Done right it can be a major source of income.
✗ Done wrong it can cost lots of money and damage your business reputation. In some cases it can even get you in trouble with the law (more on this below).

Email marketing allows you to send messages to your subscribers day or night, in real time. It is mostly reliable (dependent on your email provider, sending practices, server, autoresponder service, and/or content) and an effective way to promote specials, services, products, and more.

A good email marketing service (and autoresponder) will allow you to segment a list so you can super-target your message to the potential buyer.

How to do Email Marketing for Your Business

Many novice emailers are timid to start emailing potential customers. The idea of clicking “send” and having hundreds (or thousands) of people see the email can be daunting. Especially if you factor in the possibility of making a mistake that is forever out there for the world to see.

The new SPAM laws are becoming more intimidating too. Here in Canada it is against the law to send emails to people who have not agreed to be marketed to via email. Even the big companies aren’t immune to being fined – as in the case here where Kellogg’s had to shell out $60,000 plus the time and resources to comply with the investigation.

Since the new law came into effect many American marketers scrubbed Canadian subscribers from their list. Just as a side note – I went with the double optin long before the law came into effect. I figure if a person can’t be bothered to click the “Confirmed Optin” link they probably won’t read, or watch, what I send them anyway.

Email Marketing is Dead

With new methods of sorting emails and senders scores plummeting, it’s not completely overreacting to think that no one is looking at your emails. Over the past couple of years the most common providers of email marketing like AWeber, GetResponse, and KEAP® fka InfusionSoft have seen their Senders Scores drop. They have opened their doors to almost anyone and there is no guarantee your emails won’t end up on the same server as the “Prince” from Nigeria, or the 😮 Porn XXX Drip feeds.

This is why I recommend you should consider having more than one email provider. It is beneficial to have Aweber, Constant Contact, GetResponse or others.

Regardless of the hurdles and the intimidation, email marketing is an important part of any business. Online, digital, or brick & mortar. It is an effective tool that will tie in well with other marketing endeavors. Used wisely and regularly it can be a big boost to branding awareness as well as a selling method.

Marketing with Email ROI Numbers

As boring and confusing as statistics can be, email marketing has some pretty impressive numbers. For starters, the majority of people check their emails as least once a day. Many check several times a day.

It is a solid direct marketing tool and boasts a high ROI with a greater conversion rate than any social media advertising with the majority reporting they have made a purchase as a direct result of opening an email ad.

By collecting a list of subscribers interested in your products and services, you can then send them emails with information. These can contain gifts, helpful tips, and/or notify your prospects about sales and products targeted to their interests and needs.

It is the most cost-efficient form of direct internet marketing that can build a bridge of trust that you can profit from time and time again. With the ability to tac on various cost-effective methods to find buyers and subscribers, like solo ads or JV’s, the number of potential customers is HUGE.
