You may be more familiar with the term “Authority ROI” where the ROI stands for Return On Investment. This method of blogging is a strategy that is meant to brand you, your blog, and/or business, at the top of your chosen business niche as an Authority in that niche.
If you can learn the way to position yourself as an authority then you have a better chance of being the “go to” person in your business. You can do this simply by becoming associated with the KNOWN professionals in that industry.
For example; if you did a series of interviews with well known people who are experts in their field. You can also have these experts write blog posts for you etc. The assumption is if you are seen hanging out with the experts you will be perceived as a person of influence.
There are many famous people who do this. You might recognize the name Oprah. She has made a fortune interviewing people.
You aren’t interviewing competitors but people in a related or complimentary field. If you are a dentist you can interview a well known dental surgeon. If you sell cars you can interview Danica Patrick. If you have a music store you can interview Gene Simmons. You might think you don’t know any famous people but you don’t have to. There are services and companies that “rent” a celebratory. “A” list costs more than “B” and not all people are available for all things. As a matter-of-fact you can hire Gene Simmons here.
Return on Investment
If you hire someone to increase your authority you can make it part of the deal that they let their followers and fanbase know. Their Tweets, Facebook posts, and Instagram pictures that THEY post will send traffic your way. In addition make sure you own the rights to use this encounter for your promotions.
You don’t have to be the greatest guitar player or rock star to own a music store, but people will really respect your authority in that business if Gene Simmons comes to visit.
The idea behind this isn’t new. Your challenge is to find people to interview. If you can’t afford to pay a celebrity then an alternative way to do this is to look for authority sites in your market looking for writers. You can then offer to write for them. Find blogs that will allow you to backlink to your author page on your site. If you do a good job then ask if they would be open to being interviewed by you either on video or podcast.
Once yo have the recording you can transcribe the interview to a post on your site. Include the audio, and make a video. When it is posted send your interviewee a link and suggest they post it on their social media. Instant traffic!
Getting the Attention of Experts
If you are having difficulty getting the expert to respond to your emails, or if they aren’t accepting writers, try linking to them. For example; you can write about a topic of interest that they are an expert in. Cite them as the expert, include a short quote from their blog and link to their post. This will give you a trackback and they will be notified. The BIG secret to not having your trackback deleted as spam is to ensure your link sends them a message. What you link to and a few words that trail after the link will be included in the trackback. This gives you a few words to be as complementary and attention getting as you can.
