Social bookmarking is a KEY part of search engine optimization. Google and the other search engines are very content focused, so the more places you have your content the more traffic you generate.
Social bookmarking is a way for people to share, store, organize, manage, and search for bookmarks of resources they find online. The resources are not shared just the bookmarks.
People save links to web pages they want to remember or share in social bookmarking sites they are members of. These bookmarks are usually public but some social bookmarking sites allow them to be saved privately or shared only with certain people/ groups/ networks or some combination of public and private.
Social Bookmarking – Share The Love!
People use tags (keywords) and/or folders to organize their bookmarks in the various bookmarking sites. Most social bookmarking sites have a web feed for their lists of bookmarks. This allows users to find out about new bookmarks as they are saved, shared and tagged by other users.
Ideally you want your customers to be bookmarking and sharing your site in the various bookmarking sites. However there is nothing wrong with you or your marketing team bookmarking your site for search engines and other users to find. Done properly, social bookmarking drives links and traffic to your site.
